About AirAdvice
Mission
Our mission is to enable contractors to quantify indoor air quality health, comfort, and safety issues in the home, and present equipment solutions to the homeowner. AirAdvice is the premier IAQ program for the trades. We constantly improve our program through continuous investment in sensor technology, reports, and contractor training.
History
In the 1990s, John Skardon was searching for a way to help his wife manage her severe asthma. She could experience a life-threatening attack when exposed to particles and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that could not be detected by sight or smell. John designed an affordable device for measuring such indoor air quality (IAQ) parameters, and, in 1999, founded AirAdvice™ to make his product available to the public.
Co-founder Meindert Kleefstra, an electrical engineer, pioneered techniques and equipment to build the first prototype of the AirAdvice IAQ monitor, and he is still with AirAdvice today.
In the early 2000s, AirAdvice partnered with Honeywell and then Lennox Industries to equip their contractors with AirAdvice monitors. Those relationships continue today. AirAdvice also partners with other HVAC manufacturers, including Carrier, Bryant, Daikin, Goodman, and Amana. Partnerships have expanded to include Aeroseal and National Radon Defense.
AirAdvice Today
Our current M5200 IAQ monitor was launched in 2016, and is still in production. The earlier M5000 and M5100 models (launched in 2003 and 2005 respectively) are still supported. The model 4000 was launched in 2021. Monitors are sent in to be calibrated annually and once the process is complete they are essentially refurbished, so monitors tend to last a long time; it’s common for monitors to last 15 years or more.
Despite the evolution of our company, certain core elements have not changed: our monitors are proudly manufactured in the USA, a tradition that dates back two decades, and AirAdvice remains steadfast in its foundational goal of empowering contractors to enhance homeowners’ living standards and expand their own enterprises. AirAdvice serves as a growth catalyst for contractors and offers homeowners the chance to understand their home’s environment using calibrated equipment, 3rd party data, and guidance from trained professionals for indoor air quality improvements.
